William "Bill" P. Callahan, 73, of Lexington, passed away on Tuesday May 27, 2025, at the Lexington Regional Health Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 6, 1951, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Jerome and Betty (Garrett) Callahan. At the age of six, Bill's family moved to Lexington where he attended school and graduated from Lexington High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country from 1969 to 1971. On February 9, 1974, Bill was united in marriage to the love of his life, Cynthia Ohlmann at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington. Two sons were blessed to this union: James and Derek.
Throughout the years, Bill worked in various locations including Monroe's, Lexington Animal Clinic, Cornland Dress Beef, Excel Meat Packing, and most recently, Eaton's where he dedicated 26 years before retiring in November of 2014. Bill was a devout member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, where his faith helped him persevere during the most difficult times. Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending his time with his family and watching his grandchildren's sporting events.
Those left to honor his memory are his loving wife, Cynthia Callahan of Lexington; sons, James (Shannon) Callahan of Bertrand, and Derek Callahan of Lexington; grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashleigh) Callahan of Syracuse, Tessa Callahan of Bethany, Missouri, Tyler Callahan of Kearney, Logen Callahan of Lexington, Shane Callahan of Kearney, and Trista Callahan of Kearney; great-grandchildren, Greyson and Clay Callahan of Syracuse; siblings, Rhonda Smith of Grand Island, Sheila (Marlon) Grayer of Cleveland, Ohio, Kelly (Stan) Caras of Lexington, Rory "RJ" Callahan of Overton, Kristy (Ron) Harty of Oakville, Missouri, Curtis Callahan of Hudson, Colorado, and Misty (Lyle) Timmens of Minatare, Nebraska; brother and sister-in law, Bill and Jackie Ohlmann of Kearney, and Loren and Marilyn (Ohlmann) Sinsel of Wellfleet, Nebraska; as well as extended family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Betty Callahan; father and mother-in-law, Otto and Verna Ohlmann; brother-in-law, Alan Ohlmann, and sister-in-law, Cindy Callahan.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating. The service will be livestreamed via the Trinity Lutheran Church website at tlclex.org
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with family receiving guests from 5-7 p.m.
Burial with Military Honors will be held after the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
