Vernon F. Meyerott

Vernon F. Meyerott, 96, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Johnson Lake, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society – Millard.

He was born on December 8, 1923 in Coleridge, Nebraska to John and Theresa (Laufer) Meyerott. Vernon received his education from Coleridge Public Schools, graduating from Coleridge High School with the class of 1941.

Following his education, Vernon was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country during WWII with the Infantry Division from 1943 to 1946.  He engaged in the Battle of the Bulge Conflict, earning two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars.  Vernon was honorably discharged in 1946.  He was also honored in 2019 with a Quilt of Valor.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Beuck in 1947 and was blessed with his only son, Alan. Evelyn passed away in 1988.

While living at Johnson Lake near Lexington, Vernon owned and operated Meyerott Refrigeration. He served as a District Commander of the VFW, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and an active member of Hope Lutheran Church at Smithfield, Nebraska.

He was united in marriage to LaVonne (Orr) in 2006 and they made their home in Seward, Nebraska. After a stroke with declining health, he’s resided at Good Samaritan Society – Millard since 2017 until his death.

Vernon his survived by his wife, LaVonne of Seward, Nebraska; his son, Alan (Karen) Meyerott of Gretna and four step adult children, Ron Orr, Retha (Orr) Saathoff, Lori (Orr) Blum and Mary (Orr) Hetrick.

He was preceded in death by his previous wives, Evelyn (Beuck), Doreen (Wilke) and Ruby (Linder), five brothers and one sister; a step-daughter and his only grandchild, Scott Meyerott.

Funeral Services will be on Monday, October 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield, Nebraska with Pastor Daniel Landin, officiating. The service will be livestreamed via the Hope Lutheran Church Facebook page.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield.

Burial with Military Honors will take place in Hope Lutheran Cemetery near Smithfield.

Memorials are kindly suggested to Hope Lutheran Church or Donor’s Choice.
