Susan “Susie” Wenburg, 64, of Lexington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Kearney Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loved ones.
Susie was born February 26, 1962, in Albion, Nebraska, to Ralph and Opal (Seigal) Johnson. She was the youngest of ten children. Just like her height, they knew when to stop at perfection.
She moved to Lexington in 1968 and graduated from Lexington High School in 1980.
On April 15, 1987, she was united in marriage to Clayton Gene Wenburg, her cherished and closest love. Through this union, she was blessed with two children, a daughter and a son. Though neither was born to her, both took deep root in her heart and flourished.
Susie was known for her huge heart and genuine care for others. She was also known for her sass and humor. Another fun fact about Susie was that she would call people she loved by any name but their first name.
She often boasted about being the mother of all the strays. She had an electric personality, and people were drawn to her. Susie didn’t dislike anyone, and everyone she met fell in love with her.
Her whole world was her children and grandchildren. Every breath, every thought was for them. When Alyssa was little, she snuggled and napped with her. With Christian, they had a special greeting and code between them. Serenity and Susie often went shopping at Five Below, talking about clothes, shoes, and their love of squishies. Kira counted 38 different things in common with Susie, which, according to granddaughter math, makes them the same person.
Outside of her children and grandchildren, she had dinner every Friday night with her brother, Tim, and his wife Rhonda. She also went on frequent trips with them and, occasionally, with her sister Donna.
Susie is survived by her husband of nearly forty years, Clayton “Frank” of Lexington; daughter Erin “Mert” Copper of Lexington; son Ethan “Carter” and wife Stephanie “Zimbalist” of Lexington; granddaughter Alyssa “Lyssa-Lou” Copper of Riverton, WY; Christian “Bubba” Copper of Lexington; granddaughters Serenity “Piper” and Kira “Kira-cole” Wenburg of Lexington. Brothers John Johnson of Albion, Tim (Rhonda) Johnson of Lexington, sister Donna Eltiste of Fate, Texas. A bonus daughter, Nitasha (Cody) Robinson of Overton, a bonus son, Justin Bernshausen of Minden; and her dearest friend of 52 years, Lori Ann (Brent) Scroggin of Cozad. And countless nieces, nephews, friends, and family members. Also, her beloved friends from South Central, who were a big part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ralph, Rex, and Bob; sisters Marilyn, Karen, and Linda; dear friend Sheryl Brown; and two babies she was eager to snuggle with.
In honor of Susie, please wear something orange (shirt, pants, or accessories) as it was her favorite color.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Al "Spark" Copper, officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
Following the traditional funeral, cremation will take place and burial will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
