Susan Kay Boomhower

Susan “Susie” Kay Boomhower, 58, passed away at her home in Lexington, Nebraska, on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Susie was born February 21, 1960, in Sidney, Nebraska, the third of five daughters, to Jerry and Winona Rapp. She attended East High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming. On October 12, 1979, Susie married Tim Boomhower in Cheyenne. They moved to Lexington in 1984. Susie was a phenomenal homemaker. She loved to bake and was an accomplished cook, as well as a gardening enthusiast. Prior to her illness, she was the head cook at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington and was awarded Employee of the Year for her outstanding contribution to the company. Susie also enjoyed trying her luck playing Keno, scrapbooking and making crafts. Survivors include her husband, Tim Boomhower of Lexington; one daughter, Amanda “Mandy” Boomhower of Kearney, Nebraska; two sons: Joshua (Nicole) Boomhower of Gothenburg, Nebraska, and Jordan Boomhower of Broken Bow, Nebraska; mother, Winona Barker of Lexington; step-mother, Joan Rapp of Grand Island, Nebraska; four sisters: Tammy Johnson of Grand Island, Nebraska, Brenda Bodfield of Minden, Nebraska, Lisa (Bill) Fread of Lexington, Marsha (Don) Young of Lexington, and half-sister, Becky Harris of Kearney, Nebraska; two half-brothers: Carl Barker of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Gerald Rapp, Jr. of Grand Island, Nebraska; seven grandchildren: Jacqueline, Trinity, Ollie, Chasity, Hunter, Savannah and Samantha; father-in-law, Paul (Judy) Boomhower of Tucson, Arizona; brother-in-law, Danny (Chris) Boomhower of Tucson, Arizona; two sisters-in-law: Tracey England of Bozeman, Montana, and Leah (Reggie) McCloud of Grand Island, Nebraska; along with multiple loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Rapp; mother-in-law, Jacqueline Boomhower; grandparents, Warren and Blanch Rapp and Melvin and Etta Johnson; sister-in-law, Annie Boomhower; brothers-in-law, John Soderstrom, Paul “Buster” Bodfield and Chuck Workman; and friend, Rick Hill. Celebration of Life will be held Monday, July 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Berean Bible Church with Pastor Tom Parker, officiating. At Susie’s request, please be casual by wearing purple attire and blue jeans. There will be no visitation as cremation has been chosen.
