Rose Marie Sherman, 95, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away at the Lexington Regional Health Center on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
She was born on October 16, 1929, in Lowell, Nebraska, to Glenn and Susie Fern (Osborne) Gormley. She attended public school in Gibbon, Nebraska, and graduated from Gibbon High School with the class of 1947. She went on to receive her teaching degree from Kearney State College. On June 6, 1954, Rose Marie was united in marriage to the love of her life, LeRoy Sherman, at the Methodist Church in Gibbon. Three children were blessed into this union: Steven, Brenda and Kevin.
Rose Marie was a hard worker, spending many years working as a teacher with District 25 and District 18 as well as working for Salem Brothers Distributing as a secretary. She was known to be incredibly active in her community. She was a member of several organizations such as the Lexington Area Community Choir and the Grant Extension Club. She was a 4-H leader and was also a member of a Pinochle Club for over 50 years. Rose Marie was a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington. Her faith helped her persevere during some of the toughest moments in life. She participated in numerous organizations within the church as well. She was a member of the Presbyterian Women, Martha Circle, Prayer Shawl Knitters, and Presbyterian Mariners. She served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Chancel Choir and Joy Ringers Handbell Choir.
During her spare time, Rose Marie enjoyed being with her loved ones, camping and watching Husker Sports, or working in her garden. In her younger years, she loved to square dance with her sweetheart, LeRoy.
Those left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, LeRoy Sherman of Lexington; children, Steven (Terri) Sherman of Lincoln, Brenda (Don) Colvin of Lexington, and Kevin (Brenda) Sherman of Springfield; grandchildren, Matt Sherman, Susan (Akai) Fuller, Colleen Sherman, Laura Sherman, and Scott Sherman; great-grandchildren, Levi Sherman, Madelyn Sherman, Ezra Sherman, Solomon Sherman, Sammi Fuller, Akai Fuller, Jr.; brothers, Don (Dee) Gormley of Granbury, Texas, and Dennis (Dixie) Gormley of Amana, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Thelma Hald of North Platte, Eileen (Murl) Tiede of Elwood, and Jo Sherman of Lexington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends
Rose Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Fern, and infant brother, Allen Wayne.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington, with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
A Private Family Burial will be held prior to the memorial service at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
