Listen to Obituary

Ronald Ray Jewett, 74, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 5, 2025, at his home in Overton.

He was born on May 26, 1951, in Lexington, Nebraska, to T. Rufus and Mary (Brown) Jewett and was one of twelve children. He attended school in Overton and graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1969. After graduation, Ron went to work for the hay mills in the Lexington/Darr area before farming for Bunker Hill Farms in Holdrege. He also worked many years farming on his own and raising angus cows. Wanting a change of pace, Ron went on to dedicate over forty years to Cash-Wa Distributing in Kearney, where he was a top salesman for many years. He retired in 2023.

Ron was united in marriage to Sue Ann Hackbart, and four children were blessed to this union: Debbie, Lisa, Brian, and Scott. This marriage would later end in divorce. Ron was known to many as a jokester. He loved playing practical jokes on others or showing off silly poems he would write. He had the gift of gab and could be known to be quite persuasive. He could sell anything to anyone if they listened long enough. In his down time, he enjoyed watching sports, and playing cards.

Ron is survived by his children, Debbie Alcorta of Snowmass Village, Colorado, Lisa (John) Burkholder of Holdrege, Brian Jewett of Gothenburg, and Scott (Kelly) Jewett of Holdrege; grandchildren, Dominick (Emily) Alcorta, Derek (Shannon) Alcorta, Dalton Dietz, Dillion Upson, Dawn (Colvin) Upson, Isabella Jewett, Katie Jewett and Kenzie Jewett; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Alcorta and Millie Everett; brothers, Tommy (Doralis) Jewett of Washington, Paul Jewett of Overton, Rodney Jewett of Overton, and David Jewett of Lexington; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Roger, Jimmy, and Larry Jewett; sisters, Myra Jewett, Mary Ann Jewett, and Elizabeth Marie Peden; brother-in-law, William Peden; sisters-in-law, Connie Jewett and Belva Jewett; son-in-law, Nick Alcorta and niece, Teresa Peden.
