Robert L. "Bob" Raney, of Overton, Nebraska, passed away on March 21, 2026, at Mount Carmel Home in Kearney, Nebraska.

Bob was born on February 21, 1934, in Sutherland, Nebraska, to Beryl Deeland Raney and Frances Evelyn Lundgren.

He grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1951. He was in the National Guard until 1954, when he joined the Air Force. He served in Korea for one year and finished his tour of duty at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he met the love of his life, Velma Jean Mitchum. They were married on May 21, 1958. They made their home in Ogallala until they moved to Overton, Nebraska, in 1961 to work for Plectron Corporation. In 1981, he went to work at the Central Nebraska Public Power, retiring in 1998.

They were blessed with four children: Edwin, Susan, Vickie, and Mark.

He enjoyed attending all the sports events and helped with the Bean Feed for years. He served on the Fire Department and served on the board of the new Lexington Hospital.

He was an avid woodworker. He spent hours in his shop. Many of his wooden toys were entered in the County Fair, and some were grand prize winners. His dream was to build his own home. In 1972, his dream came true, and with the help of friends and family, it was finished in the spring of 1973.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Edwin (Pam) Raney; daughters, Susan Schwarz, and Vickie (Matt) Meier; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Mark; brother, Kenneth; sisters, Donna, Karen, and Nancy; and son-in-law, Mike Schwarz.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner officiating. The service will be livestreamed via the church website at tlclex.org
