Robert A. "Bob" Carr

August 9, 1936 — May 23, 2021

Robert A. “Bob” Carr, 84, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 after a long battle of dementia at Emerald Nursing Home and Rehab in Cozad.

Bob was born on August 9, 1936, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Robert and Elizabeth (Stieb) Carr. His family resided in Lexington where he would attend Lexington Public Schools.  He left school to work and help support the family when his father became ill. He was inducted into the Nebraska National Guard, and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1961.

On March 3, 1956, he was united in marriage to Delores “Dee” Hegge at Pierre, South Dakota and the couple were blessed with three daughters: Debra, Carol and Sandy. The family made their home in Lexington, where Bob was employed by area farmers.  He then began a long career in construction, building homes. Bob owned and operated M&C Construction with his partner Merle Margritz.

Bob having a love for car racing was an understatement. He spent 26 years driving his Mini Sprint car competing all over the state and winning multiple championships in Lexington and North Platte.  Bob was also a pit man for Bob O’Neill who drove stock cars.  He loved being at the track with his competitors and friends.  He was a long time member of the Mid-Nebraska Racing Association and Dawson County Speedway.  When Bob wasn’t at the racetrack, he enjoyed bowling and working on the neighborhood road.  In his later years, Bob enjoyed going to Mac’s Short Stop to help Dee open the store and visiting with the regulars.

Bob leaves to celebrate his life; his wife, Dee Carr of Lexington; his two daughters, Carol (Chuck) Leininger of Lincoln and Sandy (Craig) Blocher of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Jaime (Josh) Weekly of Firth, Jennifer (Andrew) Zetterman of Elkhorn, Christopher (Alyssa) Leininger of Lincoln, Jordan Leininger of Lincoln, Jacey (Oscar Diaz) Leininger of Lincoln, Linsey (Sammie) Khan of Lincoln and Christopher (Rochelle) Blocher of Kearney; sixteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred (Sharon) Carr of Overton and Pete (Ruth) Carr of Burke, South Dakota; three sisters, Kathleen (Milo) Klein of Burke, South Dakota, Rosie Rogers of Lexington, and Joanne Nickels of Lexington; brother-in-law, Marvin Zimmerman of Alexandria, South Dakota and sister-in-law, Kathy Carr of Mesa, Arizona; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Debra Sue; brother, Joe Carr, and sister-in-law, Irma Zimmerman.
