Richard Lee Warta

Richard Lee Warta, of Omaha, Nebraska formerly of the Overton and Sumner area passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at his home.

Richard Lee Warta was born to Emil and Eleanora Warta in Dawson County near Sumner Nebraska on February 19, 1934. He was the eldest of 4 children.

He attended local country schools and High School in Sumner Nebraska. At 16 he worked as a lineman for REA. Richard married Marlin Marie Trueman on May 16. 1954 They were married 25 years when she preceded him in death.

Richard loved the land. For 85 years he built, farmed and ranched the land he had been a part of since he was 6 years old. He was an avid gardener, he skillfully welded and was an engineer often making his own tools. It is where he raised his 5 children to work and love the land as he did. Richard loved his family and was known for his values, honesty and his hard work ethic.

Richard found love again and married Lois Ann Scharff on November 15, 1980. He happily added 4 more children to his family. They were married 45 years preceding his death.

Loving the outdoors, Richard enjoyed camping and taking his family on trips to beautiful state and national parks. As a hobby he taught himself Spanish and to play the guitar. He loved to play and sing music especially around a campfire.

After a study of the Bible, Richard was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on August 4, 1956, in Omaha, NE. He served his God Jehovah faithfully until his death.

Richard is survived by his wife Lois, Sons Steve Warta( Carol), Tim Warta( Lauris), Brian Warta(Peggy) and a daughter Christine Koch( Monte)and by Stepsons Ervin Scharff (Regina), Mike Scharff( Sherry), and Stepdaughters Brenda Stark, and Heather Ramey(Darin) . 12 Grandchildren and 6 Great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Eleanora, brothers Marlin Warta, Bob Warta, sister Delores Pool, beloved daughter Teresa and granddaughter Sabrina.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Daryl Wyatt, officiating. The service will be livestreamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.

Interment will in the Sumner Cemetery at Sumner.

Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
