Richard Rodney Gerard

Richard R. Gerard, 79 of Lexington passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Richard was born August 12, 1939 in Ohiowa, Nebraska to Edward and Anna (Jarcia) Gerard. Richard was united in marriage to Neva Wallace on January 5, 1968 in Clay Center, Nebraska. They had lived in Sutton, Nebraska before they moved to Lexington in January of 1991 to work at the local IBP Plant. Richard had also worked for TLC Irrigation and Marshall Town Industries. Richard served his country in the United States Army from January 14, 1966 until being honorably discharged on July 24, 1969. Richard enjoyed camping and fishing. He loved gardening and flowers, gambling, putting together puzzles, bowling and traveling. Survivors include two sons: Richard Gerard, Jr. of Lexington and Robert (Tammy) Gerard of Hastings, two daughters; Sandy (Kel) Jensen of Glenvil, Ne. and Carmen (Donald) Freeland of Lexington. Four step-sons: Scott Larson of Hastings, Darrell (Ruth) Larson of Hastings, John Larson of Hatings and Nathan Larson of Hastings, Three sisters: Diane Johnson of Hastings, Darlene Fry of Utica and Delores Zacharias of Bruning. Twelve grandchildren: Christopher, Jessica, Heather, Jeremy, Heather, Selena, Paisley, Eric, Donald, Jr., Shelby, Cassandra and Christopher. Four great-grandchildren: Brogan, Neiah, Stanley and Mavis. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife Neva on April 30, 2016 at a sister Dorothy Erickson. The family has honored Richard’s wishes for cremation. A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held Friday, September 21, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Rob Kuefner, officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
