Patsy Ann Berntson, 81, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 10, 1944, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Marston A. and Lois E. (Purintun) Rakestrow of Overton. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Overton. She attended Overton School from kindergarten to graduating from 12th grade with the class of 1962.
Patsy was united in marriage to Paul D. Berntson on July 19, 1964. To this union was born one daughter: Tess Ann.
Upon graduation, she worked at Plectron in Overton for approximately six years. She then went to work for Ernst, Beck and Housel till they sold out, and she went with Floyd Housel over to Barrett-Housel Ins. In 1970, she and her husband purchased the Texaco Bulk Plant. They ran the Bulk Plant under the name Berntson Oil Co. Inc. until retiring in May of 2006.
After retirement, Paul and Patsy enjoyed their cabin at Johnson Lake. They liked to take boat rides around the lake and go fishing. Doug and Tess were lucky enough to purchase a farm south of Brady, Nebraska, and Patsy loved to take rides on the golf carts and see the animals. The farm was a great meeting place. She could spend hours outside gardening and liked the process of canning. Patsy enjoyed going to antique and craft sales, and she often enjoyed helping take people to their appointments and visiting people in the assisted living and nursing home.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Berntson of Lexington; daughter, Tess Blake (Doug Schelling) of Holyoke, Colorado; granddaughter, Alexia Blake of Holyoke, Colorado; siblings, Carol Smith of Overton, Ned (Pat) Rakestrow of Grand Island, Shirley (Mike) O'Brien of Fort Calhoun, and Harvey (Twila) Rakestrow of Gilbert, Arizona; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
