Ona Mae Sage, 84, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 20, 2021 at her home.
Ona was born February 7, 1937, in Elwood, Nebraska to Elmer and Raymona (Kirwan) Houser. She received her primary education from Elwood public schools and graduated from Elwood High School with the class of 1954.
On June 18, 1955 Ona was united in marriage to Myrl Sage in Elwood. To this union they were blessed with four children: Peggy, Starla, Myrl “Shane” and Lorinda. The family made their home in Lexington, where Ona always kept herself busy working various jobs. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Kirkpartick’s, a waitress at Lazy L’s, clerk for King’s Pharmacy and Wheeler’s before retiring worked at Orscheln Farm and Home.
Ona loved pictures and taking photos. She also enjoyed keeping her mind busy working on crossword puzzles and word search. She was a talented seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes when they were growing up. Ona was a good cook and baker, known for her cinnamon rolls. In her younger years, Ona and Myrl enjoyed going to dances and she loved her Polka music. Most of all, Ona was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her joy and she enjoyed attending as many of their activities as possible.
Survivors include her husband, Myrl of Lexington; children, Peg Hazzard of Broomfield, Colorado, Starla (Mike) Schutz of Elwood, Shane (DeeAnn) Sage of Lexington and Lori (Phil) Lauby of Lexington; ten grandchildren, Karen (Tim) Barker of Severance, Colorado, Colleen (Todd) Petersen of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Shawn (Mary) Schutz of Gibbon, Christopher Schutz and friend, Tiffany of Kearney, Justin (Lanie) Schutz of Elwood, Katie (Jonathan) Garwood of Eustis, Ty (Nikkia) Sage of Overton, Baylee (Stuart) Long of Lexington, Brody Lauby (Bayley Bischof) of Lincoln and Brylee Lauby of Lexington; twenty-nine great-granchildren with one great-great grandchild on the way; brother-in-law, Ed (Marilyn) Sage of Sun City West, Arizona and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Evans of Lexington, Bonnie Houser of Lincoln and Nancy Houser of Wilcox; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, Ona was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray and Roy Houser; and son-in-law, Ken Bosch.
A Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Anne Gahn, officiating. The service will be livestreamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page.
A Reception will follow the service from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home with cookies and coffee being served.
There will be no visitation, as the family is honoring Ona’s wish for cremation. Burial will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the Grand Generation Center in Lexington or the American Heart Association.
