Nancy Purintun, 83, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Overton, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Prairie View Gardens in Kearney.
Nancy was born on March 28, 1942, in Lexington, Nebraska to Clyde and Doris (Bell) Rhoadarmer. One sister, Verna Clydene, joined the family one year later. After Clyde returned home from World War II, the family settled in Dawson County and eventually just north of Overton. She attended and graduated from Overton High School in 1960. She then attended college at Kearney State where she graduated with a degree in Secondary Education in Mathematics and Family Consumer Science.
When Nancy first knew Lynn Charles Purintun, she thought he was an ornery boy. In high school, they started dating and married on August 19, 1962, at the Overton United Methodist Church. They lived north of Overton and raised their four children: Jeff, Doug, Lori, and Cari.
Nancy loved sewing, reading, playing bridge and volunteering. Nancy was involved in many community and church groups. She was a 4-H leader for 40 years and served on the Dawson County 4-H council. She volunteered at the Overton Community Library for years. She belonged to Christian Women's Club and did many programs. Through church she was involved with United Methodist Women on the local, district, state level and was able to attend the world conference in England. She was a certified lay speaker, Sunday school teacher, after school youth programs, VBS leader and teacher, and faithful member. Nancy taught one year at Lexington and was a substitute teacher for many years in the Overton and Sumner schools. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile and had an active role in multiple Masonic organizations.
Her favorite role was that of grandmother. She and Lynn hosted Grandma Camp for many summers filled with swimming, play dough and ice cream. She attended many of her 9 grandchildren's school activities and performances. She was known to their friends as Grandma Blue.
Lynn passed away on December 16, 2009. Nancy moved to Kearney in 2011. She continued to attend church, reading, sewing, and played bridge in several groups. She finally got a garage and was able to get drive-through ice cream as often as she wanted.
Nancy is survived by her children and families: Jeff and Kristi Purintun of Overton and daughters, Sarah and Mike Smith of Kearney and Abby and Jeff Flint and their daughter, Sadie of Kearney; Doug and Amy Purintun of Gretna, and their children, Brandon and Meghan Purintun of Gretna, Rachael and Kunal Solanki, and their children, Eva and Jayce of Gretna, Amanda and Aaron Musilek and their daughter, Alma of Omaha; Lori and Jim Peitz of Hartington and their children Addison Peitz and Joel Bosworth of Perth, Australia; Jake Peitz and fiancé, Grace Baumert of Hartington and Cari Skinner of Dallas, Texas, and her children Andrew Skinner of Wichita, Kansas, Megan Skinner of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
