Marlyn "Jim" Teel

December 22, 1935 — September 9, 2023

Lexington

Marlyn "Jim" Teel, 87, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island, Nebraska.

He was born on December 22, 1935, in Farnam, Nebraska to Carroll D and Martha M (Harwood) Teel. He graduated from Elwood Public Schools with the class of 1954. In his youth, Marlyn spent some time teaching Sunday school and was also an active member of the Eagle's Club. He was an avid water sports enthusiast and enjoyed the adventure of hunting and fishing. Marlyn was united in marriage to Joan French on August 18, 1956, in Lexington, Nebraska

Marlyn began his professional journey with the Union Pacific Railroad before joining Britton Construction for five years. However, it was at Paulsen's Inc. in Cozad that he found his true calling as construction supervisor and where he picked up his nickname of "Jim", but to family he was still "Marlyn". He dedicated an impressive 28 years to the company, exemplifying loyalty and hard work until he finally retired. Marlyn had a passion for country music; he loved to play, listen and dance to it. A talented carpenter, Marlyn loved woodworking and took great pride in remodeling rental properties as well as his own home. His craftsmanship will forever be appreciated by those who were fortunate enough to witness it. He was always in the garage tinkering with something. In his later years, he adored getting to spend quality time with his family and especially his grandchildren. During Marlyn's downtime, you could find him cheering on the Huskers and enjoying a thrilling game alongside his beloved wife. Their shared love for sports created a special bond between the two.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Diana (Leonard) Rainforth of Doniphan, Mike Teel of Denver, Colorado, Rhonda (J.L.) Spray of Lincoln, and Mark Teel of Lincoln; grandchildren, Travis (Teana) Rainforth, Jeremy (Brandi) Rainforth, Jessica (Jon Bittick) Betz, Gretchen (Branden) Wagner, Cassie (Tony) Skarka, Nathan (Sandy) Betz, John "Jack" Spray, Emma (Mike) Woodall and Grace (Jonathan) Halstead; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ben, Brian, Jytt, Mia, Atley, Teddy, Sawyer, Lynden, Auggie, Gloria, Hank and Reagan.

Besides his parents, Marlyn was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Teel, and his brothers, Delazon Teel and Marion Teel.
