Maria Luisa Morales-Moreno

October 15, 1930 — January 2, 2022

Maria Luisa Morales-Moreno, 91, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on October 15, 1930 in Santa Ana, El Salvador, to Juan De Dios Morales and Camila Moreno.  

Maria was united in marriage to Torivio Garay in 1953 in El Salvador.  Six children were blessed to this union: Jose, Delsy, Ana, Luis, Mauricio and Mario.  The family made their home in Los Angeles, California.  Her husband, Juan passed away in 1971. Maria then lived in Colorado Springs before she settled in Lexington, Nebraska in 2000 to be closer to family and loved to be her grandchildren.  

Maria loved her church and was a faithful member to St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.  She enjoyed serving her church, always willing to help out anyone in need.  She loved cooking, crocheting, going for long walks in her neighborhood and around town.  She was an animal lover, especially birds and always looked forward to family gatherings.  Her family, church and faith were always an important part of her life.  Above all, Maria has left a tremendous legacy of love and faith to her family.

She is survived by her children, Jose Orlando Morales (Sonia Penate) of Lexington, Delsy (Mario) Alfaro of Russellville, Alabama, Luis Alfredo Garay-Morales (Maria Angela) of Boston, Massachusetts, and Maurico Oswaldo Garay of Lexington; two brothers, Emiliano (Margarita) Morales and Mario Morales both of Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Felipa Morales and Esperanza Mareno both of Los Angeles; sixteen grandchildren, Orlando Calderon of Lexington, Sandy (Gustavo) Rodriguez of Lexington, Delmy Calderon of Lexington, Angie (Jaime) Ramirez of Lexington, Griselda (Ramon) Millan of Lexington, Jenny Calderon of Lexington, Brenda Calderon of Los Angeles, Susie Calderon of Los Angeles, Debby Calderon of Los Angeles, Joel Alexander Garay of Lexington, Geovanni Ernesti Garay of San Jose, California, Freddy Omar Garay of Boston, Massachusetts, Bessie Anjelica Garay (Elizar Gamez) of Boston, Massachusetts, and Marta Cuz Alfaro of Russellville, Alabama; 37 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Besides her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Torivio; her two children, Ana and Mario; and two granddaughters, Maria Teresa and Karen Yorlene.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Father Jose Chavez, officiating.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2021 from 3-7 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington.

Interment will be in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery at Lexington.

Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
