Lynnette Phillips, 73, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born October 17, 1945 in St. Paul, Nebraska to Leonard and Ardus (Haney) Gruber. She attended grade school in Elwood, Nebraska and graduated from Elwood High School. Her father died in a car accident at a very young age. Ardus remarried Howard Halker and he became her father. Lynnette was united in marriage to Jim Phillips on December 24, 1964 in Elwood, Nebraska. Two children were blessed to this union: Jerry and Jodi. They lived in rural Lexington and Lynnette was employed at the Dawson County Court House as Register of Deeds. She then went on to bookkeeping for Midway Supply and Landmark Implement. They moved into Lexington and she did the bookkeeping for her husband, Jim Phillips Construction. Lynnette then retired to due health reasons. In her younger years, Lynnette loved to quilt. She then had a passion for making greeting cards for every holiday, birthday and anniversary’s. She enjoyed playing competitive thinking games like scrabble and crossword puzzles. Lynnette liked cooking, planting her flower gardens and watching her favorite television shows. She looked forward to spending time with her friends at coffee and playing cards and once a month having lunch with her classmates. Lynnette was a member of the Red Hat Society and Elwood and Lexington Christian Church. Survivors include her children, Jodi Phillips and special friend Brent Hinton of Lexington, Nebraska and Jerry (Jennifer) Phillips of Eugene, Oregon; brothers, Larry (Elinor) Gruber of Carl Junction, Missouri and Nelson (Lannae) Halker of Lexington, Nebraska; three sisters, Mary Ellen Ford of Lexington, Nebraska, Estelline Townsend of Caldwell, Kansas and Inez Joy (Darrell) Bourne of Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren, Justin (Nancy) Smolik of Amherst, Nebraska, Ashley (Jim) Green of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Kyle Phillips of Eugene, Oregon and Erica Phillips of Eugene, Oregon; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Gabby and Aiden. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Don Gruber and Greg Halker; three brothers-in-law, Richard Sundquist, Willard Ford and Gene Townsend; two sisters-in-law, Sonnie Halker and Tammy Halker. A Graveside Service will be on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Elwood Cemetery with Pastor Daniel Sauer, officiating. There will be no visitation.
