Johnnie Joe Tvrdy

Johnnie Joe Tvrdy, 85, of Platte City, Missouri, formerly of Lexington, died Monday, January 1, 2018, at Hillview Nursing Home in Platte City.   He was born October 25, 1932, in Sumner, Nebraska, to John and Mary (Kutnik) Tvrdy. He graduated from Overton High School with the class of 1951.   Johnnie served his Country in the United States Army from March 4, 1953, until his honorable discharge on March 1, 1955, as a Corporal. He was united in marriage to Peggy Dixon on February 2, 1956, in Cozad, Nebraska. Three sons were blessed to this marriage; Terry, Larry, and John. The couple made their home near Lexington since 1956.   Johnnie farmed from 1956 until 1973, when he went to work for Sperry New Holland, until they closed the Lexington plant in 1985.   He was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed collecting guns, hurricane lamps, playing Bingo, and was a constant teaser. He loved playing practical jokes, and being with the family, especially the grandkids, and great-grandkids.   Johnnie is survived by his three sons; Terry (Kim) Tvrdy of Central City, Nebraska, Larry (Deb) Tvrdy of Cozad, Nebraska, and John Tvrdy of Kansas City, Missouri; Sister-in-law, Mavis Tvrdy of Ralston, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren with one on the way; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy in 2006; two brothers, Ed and Art; and sister, Pat Ruhter.   Funeral Services will be Friday, January 5, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Pastor Daniel Sauer officiating.   Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.   Visitation will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel.   Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.   Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.   Please share online condolences with the family by visiting: reynoldslovefuneral.com.
