John Bischoff, 87, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Kearney Regional Medical Center.
He was born on November 21, 1938, in Rugby, North Dakota, to Paul and Katherine (Martian) Bischoff. He attended school in Rugby until the 8th grade. He would later receive his GED in Lexington in 1985. John went on to attend Central Community College in Grand Island where he received his associates degree in Refrigeration. On September 9, 1972, John was united in marriage to Rose Marie Jackson at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. One child was blessed to this union, Chad.
John began his career with Douglas Contractors, where he was a lineman, building transmission lines all throughout the country. In 1970, John joined Dawson Public Power. Wanting a change of pace, he transitioned to Sperry New Holland until their closure. He then began a 17 year long career at the City of Lexington, reading meters until his retirement. He was a hardworking and honest man, dedicating several years working for his community. In John's free time, he enjoyed watching sports, his favorite being football. He spent a lot of his time fishing and just enjoying being outside in the fresh air or traveling with his family.
He is survived by his son, Chad Bischoff of Darr, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jordan (Mallory) Bischoff, and Jayce Bischoff; great-grandchildren, Sophia Bischoff, William Bischoff, and Addison Bischoff; sisters, Judy (Victor) Wurgler of Knox, North Dakota, and Beatrice (Jody) Evans of Grand Island; as well as extended family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Katherine Bischoff; his wife, Rose Bischoff; daughter-in-law, Karrie Bischoff; as well as his four brothers and four sisters.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Lay Minister, Sarah Neben officiating.
Inurnment will be held after the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
