Jim E. Phillips, 77, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at his home in Lexington

He was born December 4, 1944 in Elwood, Nebraska to Gail and June (Tilson) Phillips.  He attended grade school in Elwood, Nebraska and graduated from Elwood High School. 

Jim was united in marriage to Lynnette Gruber on December 24, 1964 in Elwood, Nebraska.  Two children were blessed to this union: Jerry and Jodi.  They lived in rural Lexington and Jim was employed by the Dawson County Department of Roads until 1975 when he started Jim Phillips Construction Company, which he still operated at the time of his death.

In his younger years, Jim enjoyed, hunting, fishing and camping. He would do a lot of butchering beef, hogs, and deer in a little shed out back of his house. Jim always had a large garden and enjoyed raising flowers and cooking.

Survivors include his children, Jodi and husband Brett Hinton of Lexington, Nebraska and Jerry and wife Jennifer Phillips of Eugene, Oregon; four grandchildren, Justin (Nancy) Smolik of Amherst, Nebraska, Ashley Smolik of Cozad, Nebraska, Kyle Phillips of Eugene, Oregon and Erica Phillips of Eugene, Oregon; three great-grandchildren, Alex, Gabbi and Aiden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, James, a sister Laura Mattison and a brother-in-law Ted Hinners.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Elwood Cemetery in Elwood with Pastor Daniel Sauer, officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
