Jack Ross Maxcy, 73, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha with his loving family by his side.
He was born on November 8, 1952 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Herald and Ellen (Hopkins) Maxcy. Jack was one of ten children, he received his education from Bayard Public Schools, graduating from Bayard High School with the class of 1971. He then went on to further his education at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, where he was very proud that he played the tuba for the University of Nebraska Marching Band.
On November 21, 1980, he was united in marriage to his best friend, Teresa Cook in Bayard, Nebraska. The couple were blessed with two children: James and Katherine. Jack and Teresa moved to Lexington in September of 1983, where they would raise their family. Jack was the manager of Century Lumber Yard in Lexington. He then worked as a traveling salesman for Hardman Wholesale out of Osborne, Kansas, and later became their in-office purchasing agent until his retirement in the fall of 2018.
Over the years, Jack enjoyed many hobbies, including scuba diving in his younger years and crossword puzzles, sudoku, and traveling once retired. He was an excellent cook and baker, and loved his black coffee. There was no end to his curiosity and enthusiasm for the things and people he loved. Jack was also a gamer and loved his flight simulator. If a pilot was in trouble, he was pretty sure he could land the plane. He loved his family immensely, especially his granddaughters and his dog, Binx. It's hard to describe a person in a few words, especially a person like Jack. But warmth, kindness, laughter, and profound love are the characteristics that describe him best. This cannot be said without mention of Jack’s faith. His greatest devotion was to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jack lived his life assured of the presence of Christ and in the promise of everlasting life.
Jack was a past member of the Bayard and Lexington Volunteer Fire Departments and was still an honorary member in Lexington.
Jack is survived by the love of his life, Teresa of Lexington; children, James Maxcy of Lexington and Katherine (Joseph) Alvarado of Lexington; his two granddaughters, Aleyna and Ivy of Lexington; his siblings, Herald "Spanky" Maxcy of Bayard, Alfretta (Gene) Claver of Bayard, Jim Maxcy of Ogallala, Tim (Sue) Maxcy of Gering, David (Kathy) Maxcy of Ogallala, Jill (Rich) Kildow of Bayard, Jon (Rhonda) Maxcy of Bridgeport and Gale (Jack) Kubiak of New Mexico; brother-in-law, Perry Cook of Lemoore, California; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
