Isabel A. Gruntorad

Isabel A. Gruntorad, 91, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Overton, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at WEL-Life in Kearney. She was born in the Streit farm home northeast of Overton on August 4, 1927 to Joe and Maggie (Weaver) Streit. Isabel attended District 96 Rural School and graduated from Overton High School in 1945. She then attended Kearney State Teacher’s College and was a rural school teacher for 8 ½ years. She married Edwin J. Gruntorad on April 7, 1951 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton. She continued teaching school while her husband served two years in the service during the Korean Conflict. When Ed returned home they purchased a house in Overton where they resided their entire married life. Four children were blessed to this union: Daniel, Mary Ann, Timothy and Katherine. After her children were in school Isabel returned to work. She was employed at the local Dentist office of Dr. L.E. Sayles and later Dr. Daniel McClenahan. She also had employment at Plectron in Overton. Isabel retired in 1989. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Altar Society. Isabel had been a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Homemaker Extension Club and Overton Worthwhile Club. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as playing cards and reading. Survivors include her children, Dan Gruntorad and special friend (Julie McNett) of Overton, Nebraska, Mary Ann (Loyd) Hickey of Overton, Nebraska, Tim (Toni) Gruntorad of Kearney, Nebraska and Kathy (Doug) Drew of Riverdale, Nebraska; ten grandchildren, Joni Thornburg and special friend (Jim Rayburn) of Gibbon, Nebraska, Tami (Seth) Burkey of Lincoln, Nebraska, Keri Gruntorad of Grand Island, Nebraska, Sarah (Nate) Dillon of Cozad, Nebraska, Rachel (Tate) Pierce of Kearney, Nebraska, Matt (Bevin) Drew of Hazard, Nebraska, Heathe Drew of Pleasanton, Nebraska, Casey Drew and special friend (Heidi Daubendiek) of Axtell, Nebraska, Randy Simonson of San Francisco, California and Jennifer Simonson of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight great-grandchildren, MaKayla, Jackson, Hadley, Anna, Ted, Macy, Emma & Linkoln; brother, Larry (Janice) Streit of Overton, Nebraska; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Isabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ed in 2016, daughter-in-law, Tina; sister, Leona Smith and brother, Melvin. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton with Father Alex Borzych, as Celebrant. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 6-7 p.m. with Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Elm Creek Catholic Cemetery.
