Hope M Williams

Hope Muriell Williams, age 102, died Sunday, February 6, 2022, at WEL-Life Assisted Living in Kearney, Nebraska.

Hope Muriell (Westerlin) Williams was born May 7, 1919, to David Westerlin and Rosetta (Muirhead) Westerlin on a farm nine miles north of Overton. She was raised in the Overton area and attended Bacon Grade School – District 42 and Overton High School.

Hope helped with the farming in the Sumner area, owned and operated the Sumner Cafe, worked at SEM School with the hot lunch program, worked at Smith’s Grocery Store in Overton, was employed at Plectron in Overton, and worked in retail stores, including shoe stores in Lexington and True Value in Callaway.

Hope married Silas Williams on January 19, 1968, and lived in Lexington until retiring in Callaway in 1979. They moved to Overton in 2001, and later relocated to Lexington. Her husband died December 26, 2002. Hope returned to Overton in 2005. She treasured time with her family (especially her grandchildren) and friends, and enjoyed her favorite pastimes of reading, crocheting, embroidery, gardening, canning, planting flowers, being an amazing cook, watching game shows (especially Wheel of Fortune – she was a winner!), and crossword puzzles (a quick solver).

She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Sumner, a Thrivent member, and a member of Women of Grace – Sumner.

Survivors include daughters, Diane (Steve) Harger, Red Lodge, Montana; Debra (Tony) Hoos, Overton, Nebraska and son, Monte Williams, Grand Island, Nebraska. Grandchildren include Kresha (John) Rohde, Abbie and Allie, Eddyville, Nebraska; Kaitlyn (Shane) Sundquist, Skarlett and Skyler, Bertrand, Nebraska; Karmen (Joel) Meier, Brenden and Maeli Hope, Elm Creek, Nebraska; Stephanie (Joe) Domitrovich, Ella and Erik Silas; and Shane Harger, Melissa and Teagan, Missoula, Montana, and Paul Williams and Noah, Kearney, Nebraska. Also, sister-in-law, Audrey Naef, Winchester, Oregon.

Hope was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers and their wives, Glen (Nadine “Deanie”) Westerlin and Dwayne “Bud” (Shirley) Westerlin. Seven brothers-in-law and spouses and three sisters-in-law and spouses also preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sumner, Nebraska with Pastor Vic Rasmussen, officiating.  The Service will be live-streamed via the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home Facebook page and will be broadcast live on 91.1 F.M.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 10-11 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sumner, Nebraska.

Interment will be in the Sumner Cemetery at Sumner.

Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church of Sumner, Nebraska or for later designation by the family.
