Hazel C Hatfield

January 27, 1927 — July 11, 2022

Hazel C. Hatfield, 95, of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

Hazel was born on January 27, 1927 in Clearfield, Iowa to Lloyd and Bertha (Jarvis) Grubb. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1944. Hazel then completed her Normal Training in Maryville, Missouri to teach school. She taught for two years in rural schools in Iowa.

Hazel was united in marriage to Robert Dale Hatfield on November 23, 1948 in Arkansas. Two sons were blessed to this union: Michael and David. The family made their home in Iowa until 1959 when they moved to Lexington. Hazel kept herself busy working at Plectron, Ben Franklin, Sixth Street Food Store, Monroe’s Automotive and Tri-County Hospital. Hazel retired in 1990.

She enjoyed playing games which included crossword puzzles, word jumble and Yahtzee with her friends. Hazel also enjoyed working in her yard, tending her flowers and a faithful dog lover.

Hazel was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 111 and was a past member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington and V.F.W. Auxiliary 5186.

Survivors include her two sons, Michael (Donna) Hatfield and David (Deb) Hatfield both of Lexington; two grandchildren, Scott Hatfield of Lexington and Melanie (Mike) Gomez of Lexington; three great-grandchildren, Lindsey Gomez of Baltimore, Maryland, Kaylee and Jackson Gomez of Lexington; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Besides her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; three sisters, Lillian Gammel, Gladys Gammel, and Frances Allen; one brother, Chester Grubb.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington with Pastor John Strackbein, officiating.

Memorials are kindly suggested to a local Animal Shelter or Kearney Animal Shelter.
