Starts at 12:00 pm
Gerald Dwight Refior, Jr., 80, of Lexington, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at his home in Lexington.
He was born on November 3, 1945, in Sumner, Nebraska, to Gerald and Oma (Smith) Refior. He grew up on the family farm for most of his childhood and eventually moved to Lexington, where he graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1965. After graduation, Gerald enlisted with the United States Army, where he proudly served his country in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He was honorably discharged in October of 1968. On September 23, 1965, Gerald was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marcia Price, in Kearney. Two sons were blessed to this union: Larry and David.
Gerald was an incredibly hard worker his entire life. After completing his military service, he worked for the Dawson County Surveyor for many years, then transitioned to the Dawson County Department of Roads. On the weekends, he would work for Dawson Feeders, later on switching to full-time until his health forced him to retire. For several years, Gerald worked the racetracks and served as the flagman in several locations such as Lexington, Red Cloud, North Platte, and Doniphan. Gerald and Marcia were members of the Good Sam Camping Club and often enjoyed camping all over the state of Nebraska, getting to enjoy nature and each other's company.
He was a family man through and through. Gerald loved being involved with his two boys, watching them during their activities, and racing. His favorite job was being a grandpa. He loved to spoil his grandchildren, and he always held a special place in his heart for his pride and joy, his great-grandson.
Those left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Marcia Refior, of Lexington; sons, Larry (Dina Louise) Refior, and David Refior, both of Lexington; grandchildren, Natasha (Jeremy) Stearns, Nathan (Emily) Refior, and Jacob Refior; great-grandson, Xander Stearns; brother-in-law, Terry Eugene Price of Harvard, Nebraska; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at noon, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska with Scott Rasmussen officiating.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the Vietnam Veterans of America: Nebraska Chapters or the Wounded Warrior Project.
