Gerald “Gerry” Wicks, 90, of Lexington, Nebraska, died on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community. He was born April 11, 1928 in Perry, Iowa to Melvin L. and Freida (Carlile) Wicks. Gerald attended Rippey High School in Perry, Iowa. Following High School, Gerry enlisted into the United States Army where he was Private First Class during World War II. He was honorable discharged in 1947. Gerry was united in marriage to Norma J. Cole and three children were blessed to this union: Cole, Connie and Corrine. He worked installing televisions for Montgomery Ward in Perry, Iowa and then spent many years working in the finance business in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska. Gerry and Norma would later divorce. Gerry was united in marriage to Betty Jo Liner. They made their home near Johnson Lake, Nebraska. Gerry worked at a bank, sold cars for Platte Valley Auto and did many odd jobs around Johnson Lake ranging from putting in shore stations to trimming trees. Betty would precede him in death in 2012. He was a hard worker and was always in motion. He loved hunting, fishing and living at Johnson Lake was special to him. Survivors include his children, Connie (Tony) Scism of Seneca, Kansas and Corinne (Doug) Nuss of Sutton, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Wicks of Hastings, Nebraska; stepson, Chuck Waley of Alliance, Nebraska; stepdaughter, Sonya Jo Whaley-Jones of Sandy, Utah; seven grandchildren, Ben, Nikki, Blake, Ashlee, Emalee, Jessica and Levi; ten great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond (Oweta) Wicks of Fresno, California; sister-in-law, Elaine Wicks of Perry, Iowa; also surviving are nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty Jo Liner; son, Cole; stepson, Mitch and brother, Harold. A Private Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Stop Table Cemetery near Callaway, Nebraska.
