George R. Moore, 85, of Overton, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born on May 3, 1939, in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Charles E. and Opal Mae (Roe) Moore. At the age of 8, his family moved to Elm Creek. George attended public school in Elm Creek and excelled at football.

Following high school, George joined the National Guard and then Army Reserve. George then moved back to the Elm Creek area where he met the love of his life, Lucile Hinrichsen. They were married on September 11, 1960, in the Overton Christian Church. Four children were blessed to this union: Ronald, Marty, Amy and Angie.

George was a hardworking man, and he loved working with his hands. He spent many years working at the Hay Mills as a mechanic and welder, worked for Ace Irrigation, and hauling hogs for Ourada's and bees for Stahlman, before jumpstarting his own trenching business. His wife and children were at the helm of the business, oftentimes helping get the work done. He was known to be an incredibly skilled welder and could truly fix just about anything. George had a portable welder machine in his pickup and would always help with welding needs in his community. When he wasn't busy working, he was out hunting, proving to be an exceptional hunter, fisherman, and trapper. George was also known for planting hundreds of trees, collecting rocks, and enjoyed a nice evening watching his favorite westerns. He was also a member of Pheasants Forever. George lived an incredibly active lifestyle and refused to stay still for too long.
