Gene W. Holbrook, 83, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood.
He was born on October 3, 1941, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Edwin and Mollie (Strackbein) Holbrook. Gene was united in marriage to Bonnie Linden on June 23, 1958. Five children were blessed to this union: Michael, Timothy, Scott, Deborah, and Brenda.
Gene was an incredibly hard worker. He dedicated 19 years to the Lexington Mill Elevator before transitioning to Sperry New Holland, where he worked for 10 years. He then went on to work for Eilers Machine and Welding as a Tool and Die maker for 16 years before finally retiring. Gene enjoyed searching for wildlife, spending his days hunting or fishing. If he wasn't outdoors, you could often find him at home watching Husker Football or playing dominos and card games with his family on game nights. He enjoyed watching his favorite western shows or expanding his knowledge with a good Louis L'Amour novel. Gene loved his family and always held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He could spend hours watching his grandkids sports and activities. His greatest passion in life was serving the Lord and made sure his family felt the same love and faith in the Lord as he did. He was very active in the church and was a church board treasurer for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife, Bonnie Holbrook of Lexington; children, Michael (Jeannie) Holbrook of Cozad, Timothy (Deb) Holbrook of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Scott (Cindy) Holbrook of Lexington, Deborah Broussard of Lincoln, and Brenda Smith of Lincoln; twenty grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Holbrook of Texas, and George (Jean) Holbrook of Lexington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Higer and brothers, Darrell and David Holbrook.
