Gary Scot Wolfe

November 10, 1951 — March 13, 2024

Bertrand

Gary Scot Wolfe, 72, of Bertrand, Nebraska passed away on March 13, 2024, in Overland Park, Kansas where he was loved and cared for by the staff of Garden Terrace.

He was born on November 10, 1951, in Lexington, Nebraska to Donald Francis Wolfe and Patricia (Stanford) O’Dell.

Gary graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1970 and entered the United States Navy in 1971. He was a machinist and attended Nuclear Engineering school while in the Navy and served on a submarine during the Vietnam War that traversed the world, taking him to places like Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1975.

On May 19, 1979, he was united in marriage to Kim (Fox) Anderson and to this union his daughters, Kiley and Erin were born. Gary and Kim later divorced. Gary was a devoted father to his girls, teaching them the value of hard work and shared with them his sense of humor and ability to tell stories. He was dedicated to supporting Kiley and Erin in all their endeavors throughout his entire life.

When Gary wasn’t traveling out to Wyoming with his dogs Spike and Sandy, you would find him attending Big Car Racing Events. He had a deep commitment and love of racing and played a key part in establishing the BCRA Hall of Fame in Nebraska. He would later write a book on the BCRA and be an integral part of bringing the history of the sport to life in Nebraska.

Gary loved to learn new things and was artistically talented. This led him to learn how to make Damascus knives, woodcarvings and complete beautiful scrimshaw pieces. Gary also loved the outdoors and spent a lot of his time hunting, fishing and camping.

Family was most important to Gary, and he had a very special place in his heart for his three grandsons. He ensured he never missed a chance to cheer them on at one of their events.

Left to mourn his passing are his two daughters, Kiley (Carmen) Sidman and Erin Gehrig; grandsons, Mitchell (Tyler) Gehrig, Spencer Gehrig and Jaxson Gehrig; brother, Brad Wolfe; sisters, Marcy (Craig) Stevens, Adeana (Tom) Rubenthaler, Melissa Wolfe and Dawn Warden; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and one sister.
