Everett “Butch” Wayne Hagan, age 84, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at CHI Health Good Samaritan West Tower in Kearney, Nebraska, surrounded by his loving family.

Butch was born on June 16, 1941, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Rawlin “Tuffy” Hagan and Lucille Irene “LeDroit” Hagan. He was a lifelong resident of Lexington and a man deeply devoted to his family, his community, and a life of service.

On July 23, 1963, he married the love of his life, Dorothy “Dot” Ballheim, and together they shared 62 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, loyalty, and dedication.

Butch is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy “Dot” Hagan of Lexington, Nebraska; his daughter, Sheila “Hagan” (David) Mack, Windsor, Colorado; and his siblings: Elenar Guthrie of Prospect, Tennessee; Veronica “Ronnie” Hagan (Tommy) Smith of Lexington, Nebraska; Raymond Hagan (Sherron) of Smithfield, Nebraska; and Rawlin “Leon” Hagan (Faye) of Beatrice, Nebraska.

He was a proud and loving grandfather to Christopher Hagan (Amy), Dominick Hagan (Alix), Breanna Hagan, Morgan Hagan, and MaKaila Hagan, and a cherished great-grandfather to EmberLyn Hagan, Scarlet Hagan, Beau Hagan, and Kinzley Hagan.

Butch also lovingly embraced a group of self-proclaimed grandchildren, the Hernandez children—Brayan, Jake, Kenneth, Denilson, and Belinda Hernandez—neighbor children who grew up close to Butch and considered him a grandfather in every sense of the word.

Butch began his working life in the Kansas oil fields, where he developed the strong work ethic that defined him throughout his career. He later became employed with Kanda Land Leveling as a heavy machine operator. Butch then joined the Dawson County Department of Roads, where he continued honing his skills in equipment operation and road maintenance. Over the next 30-plus years, he served as Highway Road Superintendent before retiring after many years of faithful and dedicated service. Following retirement, Butch remained active, selflessly dedicating his time and talents to various endeavors, ultimately working in sales for LifeVantage and Michael Todd Industrial Supply.

Butch dedicated much of his life to serving others. He was a member of the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years, a member of the Lions Club, served as a County Commissioner, and was actively involved with the Fair Board and the 4-H Association. He was known as the first person to step up and help anyone in need, at any time.

Loyal, committed, and deeply passionate, Butch gave his whole heart to everything he was involved in. He will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched, including his loyal cat, Lucky, whom Butch took in as a wild, orphaned stray and was determined—through patience and persistence—to earn his trust and affection. Butch enjoyed tending to his Purple Martin birds daily, fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

In accordance with his wishes, Butch gave the gift of tissue donation along with donating his pacemaker to Colorado State University Canine Department, continuing his legacy of helping others even after death.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Rawlin “Tuffy” and Lucille “Lucy” Hagan; his son, Dawayne E. Hagan; his great-granddaughter, Wynter P. Hagan; his parents-in-law, Donald and Essie Ballheim; and his brothers-in-law, Donald Ballheim and Daryl Ballheim.

Butch leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service, integrity, and generosity, and he will be deeply missed by so many whose lives he touched.

Public visitation with family will be on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home, Lexington Nebraska.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11:00 am at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home, 106 W 8th, Lexington, Nebraska.

Cremation will take place. There will be no burial or graveside service. Following the service, there will be a luncheon graciously served by the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department at the fire hall located at 600 N Tyler Street, Lexington, Nebraska.

Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation along with the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department.
