Evelyn Mae Hutt, 100, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Elwood Care Center in Elwood, Nebraska.
Evelyn Mae Weaver was born to LeRoy and Ethel Koehn Weaver on August 5, 1923, on a farm southwest of Oconto, Nebraska. She attended grade school at District 231 for eight years and graduated from Lexington High School in 1941. After graduation she attended a business school in Omaha.
Evelyn worked at the Cornhusker Ordnance Plant near Grand Island, Nebraska for fourteen months during WWII. She later returned to Lexington where she met her husband, Cecil, who had just returned from military duty. They were married on June 3, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington.
After retiring from nineteen years of employment with Prosser Co., K & H Co., Lexington Alfalfa and Bicentennial Cattle Co. (all in the same office) she filled her time making quilts for her children and grandchildren and traveling with her husband in their fifth wheel camper. Evelyn was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for 77 years where she served as an Elder, a Deacon, and was on the Personnel and Service Committees. She also volunteered to help assemble the church newsletter and belonged to the Southside Bible Study for several years. Evelyn was active in the Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Disabled Veterans Auxiliary, and Ex P.O.W. Auxiliary.
She is survived by four children: Judy Tomasek (Bob) of North Platte, Steve (Roxanne) of Perryville, Kentucky, Dan, of Johnson Lake and Dee Weaver (Joe) of Johnson Lake. Nine grandchildren: Stacy Schultz (Thad) of Timnath, Colorado, Sean Tomasek (Rene’) of Neenah, Wisconsin, Wade Hutt of Lexington, Kentucky, May Luong (Lou) of Lexington, Kentucky, Tessa Menard (Chae) of Kansas City, Missouri, Tara Kammerer (John) of Overland Park, Kansas, Tawna Abboud of Orlando, Florida, Jamie O’Donnell (Bryan) of Lincoln, and Jeremy Jorgensen (Emily) of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Twenty-four great grandchildren: Brittany, Bethany, Alex, Connor, Ava, Belle, Luke, Maya, Shelby, Parker, Sam, Madison, Alia, Alex, Sofia, Evan, Claudia, Ell, Jones, Ezra, Harper, Ivy, Graham, Callum, Claire, and Emerson. Two great, great grandsons: Urijah and Jackson.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ethel Weaver, her brothers Gerald and Floyd Weaver, her husband Cecil Hutt, and her nephew, Keith Weaver, who she considered a brother as they were raised together.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating with a luncheon to follow the service. A family graveside service will be held prior to the memorial service.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
