Eugenia (Genie) M. Hawks

Eugenia (Genie) M. Hawks, 83, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021 at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.

She was born August 4, 1937 in Frontier County, Nebraska to Eugene J. and Armilda P. (Lucas) Gruber. She was the oldest of eight children. She attended school in the Eustis area and graduated from Eustis High School with the class of 1955.

Genie was united in marriage to Robert Hawks on September 4, 1955 at the Lutheran Church in Eustis. To this union two daughters were born, Susan and Ann. After the wedding the couple moved to Arkansas, where Bob was in the service for a year and then moved to Lexington in 1956.

Genie was a school Librarian at the Morton Elementary School in Lexington for over twenty years. She had read every book in the library. She had a true love for children.

She was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington where she taught Sunday School, Bible School confirmation classes and was a member of Ruth’s Circle for over forty years. Genie was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Red Hats Society, an extension club and a bunko group for many years. She loved traveling and she and Bob wintered in San Diego since 1998. She was an avid reader, loved taking walks, having coffee with her friends and talking and debating with people. She was proud of her children and her grandchildren.

Genie is survived by her husband of over sixty-five years, Robert of Lexington, two daughters; Susan and husband Glenn McClintic of San Diego, California and Ann and husband Larry Luther of Lexington. Four grandchildren; Alexis and husband Lukas Holoubek of San Rafael, California, Aaron Luther of Los Angeles, California, Taylor McClintic of Eugene, Oregon, and Ryan McClintic of Santa Cruz, California. Three brothers: Eldon (Annette) Gruber of Roca, Nebraska, Bruce (Carole) Gruber of Salem, Oregon and David (Linda) Gruber of Moalla, Oregon, two sisters; Verna (Ron) Goad of Salem, Oregon and Nancy (Darrel) Holscher of Bertrand, NE. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Gordon, two sisters; Julie Howell and an infant sister, and one brother-in-law, Doyle.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Following visitation her body will be cremated.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington with John Strackbein, P.M.A., officiating. The service will be live streamed on the Grace Lutheran Face Book page.

Inurnment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, north of Lexington.

Memorials are suggested to the Grace Lutheran Church or The Lexington Grand Generation Center.
