Edward Morton "Mort" Tiensvold

Edward Morton Tiensvold, “Mort”, went home to Jesus ’arms January 25th 2022 after struggling with issues exacerbated by the devasting fire which destroyed their home. Morton was born May 12th, 1933 at his parent’s home. His mother used to say “It cost $25.00 for Morton to be born and that was quite a sum back then.” Named after his father and Grandfather as Edward Morton Tiensvold, but everyone knew him as Mort, Morton, or sometimes Papa from the days of selling antiques and collectibles. A brother Vernon and a sister Joyce were also born at the family farm outside of Rushville, Nebraska.

Morton met the love of his life, Beverly, and they were engaged while he was in the Army from 1953 to around 1955 where he served in the “Hell on Wheels” division in Occupied Germany. He was a proud veteran and loved his country dearly. He was happy to come home to Beverly and begin his life with her.

Mort and Bev were the first couple married in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They were wed on June 12th, 1955. Over the years he would sing “Beautiful Brown Eyes” to his lovely brown-eyed bride of 66 years. To their union was born three children: Mark, Deb, and Brenda whom he loved with his whole being.

Morton did many things in his lifetime. He was a farmer, mechanic, antiques dealer, bridge builder, construction worker, roofer, painter, inventor, and entrepreneur. There was little he wasn’t able to do or achieve-especially if you told him, it couldn’t be done. As his cousin Donna said, “they don’t know what a stubborn Norwegian he was.” His home was open to those who needed a helping hand or some work. Sometimes the house was filled to the brim but there was always room for one more. He had different hobbies in his life. He liked to fish when he had time, he went on treasure hunts with grandkids, he played guitar, he sang and listened to music, told stories that sometimes you couldn’t understand because he was laughing so hard. He was a wonderful dancer, enjoyed growing plants, and loved his pets. Additionally, he enjoyed the love of his life and their family of 3 children, 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Tiensvold, Sister, Joyce and husband Rollie of Colorado, Springs, his three children: Mark Tiensvold and his wife Ila of Rushville. Deb Wells and husband Roger of Lexington, Nebraska, and Brenda Spangler and husband Lonny of Beloit, Kansas: his beloved 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and a plethora of cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.

Morton is dancing and singing with Kacee and those that left this earth before and have welcomed him home with Jesus.

Memorials will be at the discretion of the family.

Come celebrate Morton’s life, 10:00 am on Monday, January 31, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rushville Nebraska. Lunch will be held after the service at the church.

The family would like you to consider wearing something red to the funeral as a tribute to Morton who loved the color red.
