Dennis (Denny) James Sund, 68, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at his home.
He was born on October 2, 1956, in Lexington, Nebraska to William and Gertrud (Herzog) Sund. He attended Lexington Public Schools and graduated from Lexington Senior High with the class of 1974. Dennis was united in marriage to the love of his life, Angela Gonzalez in 1977, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington. The couple were blessed with two children: Mandy and Nate.
A dedicated individual with a multifaceted career, Dennis began working at Trautman's in his younger years, then later began working at a hog farm near Smithfield. He went on to begin a career at the City of Lexington, where he devoted over two decades of service at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, retiring in April of 2024.
Dennis was a man of many passions. His love for sports shone through as he was an avid baseball fan. He found immense joy in fishing, hunting, golfing, and bowling, embracing the outdoors and all it had to offer. To his close hunting friends, he was known as the eye in the sky. Dennis often could be found driving around the lake or spending time at the inlet. He recently began finding the fun of putting together puzzles during his free time. Family was at the very core of Dennis's life. He adored his grandchildren more than anything, proudly attending each of their sporting events and celebrating their achievements.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Angie Sund of Lexington; children, Mandy (Jeremy) Evans of Hastings and Nate (Cassondra) Sund of Lexington; grandchildren, Kaden Evans of Firth, Nebraska, Chase Evans and Allyse Evans, both of Hastings, Hunter, River, and Drake Sund, all of Lexington; sister, Patty (Les) Wolfe of Cozad; sisters-in-law, Deb Sund of Lexington, Mary Jane (Doug) Wind of Mesa, Arizona, Elly Rensink of Omaha, Fran Gonzalez of Omaha, Jane Woodson of Arizona, Monica (Todd) Strezishar of Lexington, Berni (Dan) Schwarz of Bertrand, and Dawn (Dave) Root of Bertrand; brothers-in-law, Bob Gonzalez of Bertrand, Leo (Diane) Gonzalez, Jr., of Lexington, and Ray (Theresa) Gonzalez of Lexington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Besides his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his in-laws, Leo and Andrea Gonzalez; brothers, Jimmy and Tim Sund; brothers-in-law, Porfilio Gonzalez, John Shelor, Ken Rensink, and Tom Woodson; sisters-in-law, Ramona Gonzalez, Terry Jo Young, and Annette Shelor.
