Dana "Rene" Lindsay, 67, of Johnson Lake, Nebraska passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born on May 7, 1958, in Independence, Kansas to Lan and LaDonna Lindsay. Rene attended public schools in Independence and graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1976. Rene then went on to further her education throughout the years where she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix.
She always kept busy and didn't shy away from work. She spent many years working as a Truckdriver cross country, worked for Orthman's in Lexington, manager of Family Dollar and was in charge of the School Lunch Program for the Holdrege Public Schools.
Rene lived in Colorado before she moved to Johnson Lake with the love of her life, Garry. Rene was united in marriage to Garry Byrns on September 9, 2009, at his parents' home on Johnson Lake. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing. In her younger years, Rene was known as a farm girl. She loved shooting guns, trapping and just being outdoors. Rene took great pride in being a seamstress and putting love and dedication in her work for her family.
It's hard to describe a person in a few words, especially a person like Rene. But warmth, kindness, laughter and her sense of humor are the words that seem to characterize her the best.
Survivors include her husband, Garry of Johnson Lake; her children, Karl "K.I." Hongermeyer of Gillette, Wyoming, Lana Taylor of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Nick (Crystal) Byrns of Elwood; two grandchildren, Lan and Xander Taylor; two brothers, C.W. (Sheila) Guude of Oklahoma and J.B. Lindsay of Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Mike (Misty) Byrns of Lexington and sister-in-law, Patty Halouska of Lexington; in-laws, Jim (Phyllis) Byrns of Johnson Lake; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Rene was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be no visitation or services at this time, as the family is honoring Rene's wish for cremation.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
