Betty R. Nelson, 92, formerly of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Brookdale Highlands Ranch in Colorado.
She was born on January 24, 1933, in Purdum, Nebraska, to Lewie and Anna (Haumann) Simonton. Betty grew up in Purdum, though graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 1950. On June 6, 1952, Betty was united in marriage to Murland "Swede" Nelson in Broken Bow. To this union two children were born: Mickie and Steven. Swede and Betty made their home in Lexington in 1962.
Betty worked for Custer Public Power for several years before beginning a long and dedicated career working as the assistant trust officer for the Lexington State Bank and Trust Co. that spanned 28 years until her retirement.
Betty was a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington where she served as a deacon for several years. She was an active member of the Eastern Star, the Shrine Auxiliary, and the Hospital Auxiliary. In her free time, Betty enjoyed being with her friends during their weekly bowling league. She liked to travel often with her husband, taking a cruise to Alaska, and traveling to Europe and other destinations, golfing and was a great crafter.
She is survived by her daughter, Mickie (Jim) Kircher of Littleton, Colorado; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Blake) Michelsen, and their daughter, Leilani, and James (Melissa) Kircher, and their two children: Bowen and Lawson; as well as extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Murland Nelson; son, Steven Nelson; three brothers, Paul, Morris, and Dorn Simonton; two sisters, Ellen Seeley and Murle Nichols; and an infant sister.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Eddie Mariel, officiating. The casket will be closed.
Interment will be held after the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington.
Memorials are kindly suggested to the family for later designation.
