Robert Leonard Cochrane

Robert Leonard Cochrane, 92, of Overton, Nebraska, died Monday, August 28, 2017, at his home in Overton. He was born April 15, 1925, in Cozad, Nebraska, the oldest of eight children, to Leonard and Addie (McKinney) Cochrane. Robert was united in marriage to Bonnie Seevers on June 19, 1954, in Lexington, Nebraska. Two children were born to this union: Patti Lynn and Robert Michael. Robert attended Cozad High School, graduating with the Class of 1943. Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on March 5, 1946. Bob worked for the Ford Garage in Lexington for 25 years as an auto mechanic and then as driver for Overton Sand and Gravel. He worked for them since 1977, continuing to do odds jobs there, even after retirement. You could also find him at the Overton Senior Center for several years, making sure the coffee was made every morning. Robert was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting in his younger years, and later in life, his brother Dale introduced him to fishing and he was hooked! He was also known as “The Clock Man,” fixing clocks for people all over the country. Bob was a good mechanic and loved to tinker in his garage. Survivors include his daughter, Patti Crites and her husband, Russell, of Elm Creek, Nebraska; brother Dale Cochrane, and his wife, Beverly of Eustis, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Randy Harms, Jr., Lincoln, Nebraska; Daniel Erpelding and his daughter, Adalynn, Lincoln, Nebraska; Mandi Magana and her two children, Norfolk, Nebraska; and Shawna Cochrane and her six children, Kearney, Nebraska; special great-grandchildren, Tristan and Kamryn Harms; and one great-great-grandson, Aaron Robert Harms; brothers-in-law, Glen Oberhouser, Hastings, Nebraska; Richard Cawley, Lebanon, Oregon; and sister-in-law, Shirley Cochrane, Scottsbluff, Nebraska; along with many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; son, R. Michael Cochrane; brothers, Dick, Carl, David and Keith; sisters, Marilyn Oberhouser and Jeanine Cawley. He is also preceded by his Navy buddy, Cliff Mayhinney. Funeral Services will be Friday, September 1, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington with Reverend Doug Gahn officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 31, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Cozad Cemetery at Cozad.
