Evelyn J. Gregory

    Evelyn J. Gregory, 75, of Overton, Nebraska, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at CHI Good Samaritan-Kearney, after many months of suffering with various forms of cancer.   She was born May 21, 1941, in Deepwater, Missouri to Jesse and Mabel (Brown) Branstetter. The family moved to Clinton, Missouri in 1952. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1959, and in 1960, Evelyn met the love of her life, Edward Gregory and they married September 14, 1960, in Clinton. Of this union, Gary Dale Gregory was born July 2, 1961, and Beverly June Gregory on January 13, 1965. Beverly preceded her in death on April 21, 2010. The family lived in Nebraska since 1961, first to Cozad, moving to Elm Creek in 1978, and settling in Overton in 1991.   Evelyn was the most soft-hearted loving soul one would ever want to meet. She loved her Lord and her “extended” family and loved taking care of them. She came to enjoy games on the computer and sharing with friends on Facebook. She has many friends who will miss her smile and her loving heart and the times of enjoyment with them all. Her last days were complicated with cancer and the resulting pain, yet she did her best to be joyful for she knew her treasure was in her Lord.   Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Edward Gregory of Overton, Nebraska; one son, Gary Gregory of Miller, Nebraska; one son and daughter from other mothers; Jerry and Lori Hagan of Elwood, Nebraska; four granddaughters, Niki (Kenny) Townsend of Elwood, Nebraska, Jami Schidler, Jennifer Burkhart, and Kelli Ritter of Jonestown, Pennsylvania area; one grandson, Josh (Sarah) Hagan of Omaha, Nebraska; three great-grandsons, Ian Corder and Devin Townsend of Elwood, Nebraska, and Cohen Hagan from Omaha, Nebraska; two great-granddaughters, Vaida and Ella Hagan of Omaha, Nebraska. Also surviving are one sister, Margaret (Branstetter) Klose of Abingdon, Virginia; two brothers, James Branstetter of Harrisonville, Missouri, and Elmer Branstetter of Charlotte, North Carolina; additionally, she leaves her brothers-in-law, Norman Klose of Abingdon, Virginia, Ora Lee Gregory and Bob Gregory of Windsor, Missouri, Charles (Lois) Gregory of Texas, Don Gregory of Overton, Nebraska; and sisters-in-law, Tina Branstetter of Charlotte, North Carolina, Judy Branstetter of Harrisonville, Missouri, Mary Ann Dempsey of Calhoun, Missouri, and Ethyl Commins of Warsaw, Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.   Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Beverly June; and two brothers-in-law, Ervin Dale Branstetter and John Ivan Gregory.   The family would like to extend a special thanks to Clarence Davis and Becky Johnson who shared Evelyn’s deep abiding love for Jesus Christ.   A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska.   At Evelyn’s request there will be no funeral service and cremation will follow visitation.   Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.   Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
