Bobby G. Byrd, 74, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Friday, December 30, 2016, at Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington. He was born August 15, 1942, in Windsor, North Carolina, to Ernest and Rachel (Mizelle) Byrd. Bobby graduated high school from Windsor, NC, in 1961. He then went onto further his education at NC State University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. Bobby was married to Vickie Hill in North Carolina. Two children were blessed to this marriage; Rachel and Jon. The marriage ended in divorce. He found love again and married Becky (Charley) Hiatt on August 16, 1985, in Anderson, Indiana. He lovingly welcomed Becky’s daughters, Allison and Melissa to the family. Bobby spent his entire career of 49 years as a USDA Meat Inspector. He worked in North Carolina, Indiana, and retired in 2010 from Tyson Fresh Meats in Lexington, Nebraska. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Lexington. He was also a past member of the Lion’s Club. He enjoyed reading sports books, doing yard work, refurbishing their 1910 home, word search books, and being outdoors. His greatest joy came from being with the grandchildren, and talking about family history. Of note, he did have a special, dry sense of humor, one of which will always be remembered. Bobby is survived by his wife, Becky of Lexington, Nebraska; son, Jon (Angela) Byrd of Alexandria, Indiana; daughter, Rachel (Jim) Mayfield of York, Nebraska; Becky’s daughters, Allison (Deonn) DeFord of Orange, California, and Melissa (Sidney) Gruber of Jacksonville, NC; one sister, Janet (Eugene) Price of Windsor, NC; eight grandchildren, Brandon Hughes, Drea’ DeFord, Owen Gruber, Lily Mayfield, Ivy DeFord, Lucas Byrd, Abigail Byrd, and Matthew Byrd; as well as extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel with Mike Millican officiating.
