Howard Martin Chambers

January 5, 1940 — December 24, 2016

Howard Martin Chambers, 76, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington. Howard was born to John and Elsie (Warren) Chambers on January 5, 1940, near Holbrook, Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Doris Halley on April 9, 1959. They made their home in Cambridge, Nebraska and they had a son, Don and a daughter Cindy. They moved to Cozad and lived there for twenty-seven years. Howard worked at Monroe Auto and the City of Cozad in the water and sewer department. When his health became bad they moved to their cabin at Harry Strunk Lake and started a Furniture Mart in Cambridge, which they operated for eight years. Howard retired and enjoyed living on the lake, boating, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. When he was younger he played in bands and loved to pick, but a stroke took that so he enjoyed just listening to music. He is survived by his wife Doris of Lexington, Nebraska; one son, Don and wife Jana Chambers of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, one daughter, Cindy and husband Greg Howerter of Cambridge, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ted Chambers of McCook, Nebraska; two sisters, Lorene Boguess of McCook, Nebraska and Diane Renfro of Arkansas; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Garrett, nephew Bud Garrett, nieces Deb Specklemire and Lanole Ann Garrett, and two brothers-in-law. The family has chosen cremation so there will be no services. The family will be hosting a dinner at the Stockville Community Building, and are asking for all family and friends to attend on Saturday January 7, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Please wear casual clothes. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial of the family’s choice will be given to the city of Stockville. A container will be present at the dinner. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home is honored to assist the family with arrangements. Please share online condolences with the family by visiting: reynoldslovefuneralhome.com.
