Joy Ann Reed

November 20, 1939 — October 6, 2016

Joy Ann Reed, 76, of Omaha, Nebraska, died Thursday, October 6, 2016, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Joy Ann Reed, born Johnson, grew up in Eddyville, NE with her two brothers Marvin and Kenneth and her parents Raymond and Ethel Johnson. As a young girl, she was surrounded by cousins and playmates that enriched her life living on the farm in beautiful north-central Nebraska. Joy was born on November 20, 1939 and was a graduate of Eddyville High School. After graduation, she worked for several different offices as a secretary. On April 2, 1961, Joy married David Lee Reed at the First United Methodist Church in Lexington. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage together. Joy and Dave were blessed with children, for whom they provided a loving childhood filled with adventures and travels across the United States. Margo Ann Minikus of Council Bluffs, Kurt David Reed of Omaha, and Trenton Lee Reed of Lincoln all share a spirit of adventure and good-will that was instilled in them by their loving parents. Joy was preceded in death by her son Scott Allen Reed, who passed away in infancy, and her dear husband Dave in 2014. Joy was an impressive cook, a handy seamstress, and a devoted Huskers fan. She never missed a game, and was always decked out in bright red clothing and Huskers earrings when the game was on. Her spirit and enthusiasm for Husker football will live on in her children and grandchildren, especially those currently attending the University of Nebraska. Joy adored her grandchildren: Danielle Berres, Mason Reed, Tanner Reed, Maggie Slater, Natalie Reed, and Caroline Reed. Her laughter and compassion will live on in these 6 grandchildren, who adored her just as much as she adored them. Joy passed away on October 6th, peacefully and without pain. She was surrounded by her family in the final hours, and had spoken with several friends in the days prior to her leaving. She will live on in our hearts forever. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Chapel in Lexington, Nebraska with Reverend Anne Gahn officiating. Private Inurnment will be in the Jewell Cemetery near Sumner, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.
