Marjorie Ann Kearney

April 10, 1928 — August 30, 2016

Marjorie Ann Kearney, 88, of Lexington, Nebraska, former Overton resident, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Plum Creek Healthcare Community in Lexington. She was born April 10, 1928, in Cotesfield, Nebraska, to Edward V. and Anna Josephine (Novotny) Naprstek. She was a 1945 graduate of Ord High School. Following graduation she moved to Omaha to work at Omaha Cold Storage where she picked chickens with her two sisters. She would later work for 19 years as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Lexington. She then worked at Monroe Auto in Cozad, and Sperry New Holland in Lexington. Marjorie was united in marriage to John M. “Jack” Kearney on June 17, 1947, in Elm Creek, Nebraska. Five children were blessed to this marriage; John, David, Ann, Margaret, and Mary. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton for years. She was always a faithful, active member, and belonged to DCCW, where she was a past officer. She was also a member of the Dawson County Democrats, where she served on the election board for 25 years, a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and Christian Women’s Connection. Marjorie loved to sew, cross stitch, and bowl. She was a 35+ year member of the Lexington Women’s Bowling Association. To sum up Marjorie’s life would be impossible. She had so many friends, and folks who cared deeply for her. She was a shining spot in so many lives. But, her favorite times were always spent on road trips with Jack, spending time with family, especially the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She could tell a joke or a story with the best of them. Yes, she was ornery, but that and her wit were her trademarks! She was a true jewel and will be so very missed. Survivors include her children; John Kearney of Overton, Nebraska, David (Paula) Kearney of Overton, Nebraska, Ann (Ron) Balthazor of Lexington, Nebraska, and Mary Frances Simmerman of Murray, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; daughter, Margaret; three brothers, Milford, Frank, and Ed Naprstek; two sisters, Alice Thinnes and Venice Kugler; and three grandchildren, Alex Simmerman, Adam Larson, and Kylie Kearney. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 2, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overton with Reverends Alex Borzych and Jose Chavez con-celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 6 to 7 p.m. with rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary in Overton.
