Josephine D. Araujo, 82, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at her home in Lexington. She was born January 8, 1933, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to John G. and Lydia M. (Michael) Hernandez. She attended Lincoln High School. Josephine was married to Phillip Araujo on December 17, 1951, in Littleton, Colorado. Six children were blessed to this marriage, Phillip, Jr., Cynthia, Peggy, Jeffrey, Martin, and Christine. Josephine was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She loved all sports, especially softball and her beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and dancing. Josephine also loved going to garage sales, antique shops, and finding treasures at flea markets. Her large family meant the world to her and she will be forever missed. We can see Phillip and Josephine dancing in Heaven! Josephine is survived by her children; Phillip Araujo, Jr. of Lexington, Nebraska, Cynthia (Michael) Moats of Omaha, Nebraska, Peggy Jo Hubbard of Lexington, Nebraska, Jeffrey (Joanna) Araujo of North Platte, Nebraska, Marty (Jodi Phillips) Araujo of Lexington, Nebraska, and Christine (Rafael) Villalpando of Lexington, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas (Emily) Hernandez of Kearney, Nebraska, Joe (Angie) Hernandez of Lexington, Nebraska, and Michael Hernandez of Lexington, Nebraska; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phillip; two sisters, Delores (Munoz) Holden and Paula Hernandez; three brothers, John, Donald, and Jerry Hernandez; and, one granddaughter, Deanna Davis. The family has honored Josephine’s wishes that her body be cremated. There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with Reverend Neal Nollette celebrating. Inurnment will be in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery at Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
