Lola Belle Johnson

August 17, 1923 — November 20, 2007

Lola B. Johnson, 84, of Lexington, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. She was born August l7, 1923, at North Platte, Nebraska, to Leonard and Grace (Henry) Applegate. Lola was a 1941 graduate of Cozad High School. She then moved to Detroit, Michigan during WWII, where she worked in an Aircraft factory. Following the war, she returned to Cozad and was united in marriage to John C. Johnson. The couple were married January 20, 1946, at the Church of Christ in Cozad. Two children were lovingly adopted by John and Lola; Monte in 1955, and Rebecca in 1964. When they were first married they lived on the Johnson place east of Cozad and in 1964, bought the farm northeast of Lexington. She was fortunate enough to be able to stay home and raise the children, but worked for a time at Reach Electronics and Tri-County Hospital. Lola was always busy. She loved to entertain, cook huge Christmas dinners, sew, crochet, garden, play pinochle and visit with friends. She was part of the Kensington Club from the neighborhood and a member of Cozad Church of Christ. Lola will be so very missed by her loving family and friends. Survivors include her husband: John C. Johnson of Lexington, Nebraska One son: Monte Johnson of Lexington, Nebraska One daughter: Rebecca Johnson of Denver, Colorado One sister: Wilda (Vern) White of Cozad, Nebraska One sister-in-law: Alice Applegate of Cozad, Nebraska Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Lola was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wendall Applegate. Services will be Saturday, November 24, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Cozad Church of Christ in Cozad with Pastor Mike Dennis, officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery at Cozad. Visitation will be held Friday, November 24, 2007, from 3-5 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. Memorials are suggested to the Lexington Fire Department or the Donor’s Choice.
