Myrene G. Hammond, 87, of Lexington, Nebraska, died Thursday, November 8, 2007, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
She was born January 27, 1920, at Overton, Nebraska, to Seth and Minnie (Johnson) Kincheloe.
Myrene attended District #94 rural school at Elm Creek and then Elm Creek High School. She was united in marriage to Walter Hammond on September 4, 1937, at Downs, Kansas. Two children were blessed to this union; Gary and Barbara.
The couple lived their entire married lives on the farm, except for ten years when they lived in Lexington. Myrene and Walter were members of Fairhaven Baptist Church until 1996, when they started attending the First Christian Church in Lexington. In 2000, the couple became members of the church.
Myrene was a member of the Meadowlark Garden Club for over 50 years, she worked as the receptionist and “orange juice lady” at the Lexington Blood Mobile for over 50 years, she was a leader for the Jr. Leaders 4-H Club, a charter member of the Grant Extension Club and the Tri-County Hospital Auxiliary.
She loved to crochet, garden, read, collect bells and cardinals. She loved to play cards; especially, Pitch and Pinochle, and could still beat the pants off any of her opponents. She loved family gatherings and will be so very missed by her loving family.

One sister: Lavern Lemmers of Kearney, Nebraska
Grandchildren: Dick Reed of St. Paul, Nebraska; Peggy (Dan) Griffin of Elba, Nebraska; Penny (Howard) Beck of St. Paul, Nebraska; Pam (John) Baxa of Grand Island, Nebraska; Jolynn Stinehagen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Ken (Rhonda) Hammond of Lexington, Nebraska; Janna (Bruce) Eberle of Grand Island, Nebraska; Chris (Kevin) Jenn of Amherst, Nebraska; and Charlene (Eric) Hollister of Grand Island, Nebraska.
Twenty-four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and two on the way.
Myrene was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dick Reed and one brother, Lennie Kincheloe.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Lexington Christian Church in Lexington with Pastor K.C. BeDunnah, officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2007, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.
