Betty Jane Shoemaker

Betty J. Shoemaker, 86, of Miller, Nebraska, died Friday, October 26, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was born August 3, 1921, at Brownlee, Nebraska, to Milton and Mable (Mason) Horn and was one of seventeen children. Betty moved with her family as a young child to Custer County where she attended country school at Tuckerville. She was united in marriage to Earl L. Mowrey on January 5, 1939, at Miller, Nebraska. Three children were blessed to this union; Janice, Larry and Donna. The couple lived in Oconto, Broken Bow, Callaway, North Platte and Miller. On June 24, 1981, Earl passed away and Betty found love again with Bernard Shoemaker and was married on August 2, 1982, at Callaway, Nebraska. Mr. Shoemaker preceded Betty in death on March 31, 1998. Growing up, Betty was quite the athlete. She loved playing softball and ran track. She always enjoyed being outdoors and loved to fish. Her other hobbies included; bowling, playing cards, Yahtzee, singing, listening to music, traveling, bingo and playing the penny slots. She was a lot of fun and enjoyed a good joke now and then. She loved being with her family and will be so very missed. Betty was a member of the Callaway Lutheran Church, HHOA and the Redwing Extension Club and enjoyed being a member of both Miller and Sumner Senior Centers. Survivors include one son: Larry (Linda) Mowrey of York, Nebraska Two daughters: Janice (Bill) Dewey of Lake Havasu City, Arizona Donna Murray of Miller, Nebraska One sister: Jean Howell of Denver, Colorado Thirteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and fifteen brothers and sisters. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Callaway Lutheran Church with Pastor Matthew Groenke officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. Memorials are suggested to Miller Community Hall or Callaway Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway, which is in charge of arrangements.
