Richard Wendall Barmore

Richard W. Barmore, longtime Lexington Pharmacist, died Monday, September 3, 2007, at his family’s mountain cabin in Allenspark, Colorado, a place he dearly loved. He was born August 19, 1929, at Lincoln, Nebraska, to Fred H. and Grace V. (Staton) Barmore. He moved to Lexington as a young man with his family, where his father was a teacher/coach. His father then went back to school to become a pharmacist and opened Barmore Drug in 1933. Dick graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1947. He then attended Doane College in Crete, Nebraska for one year and graduated in 1955, from the University of Nebraska. He spent two years in the United States Navy. Upon his return to Lexington, Dick began his work as a well-respected pharmacist, a career that lasted for more than 50 years. On June 25, 1953, he was united in marriage to Wauneta Seaman in Fremont, Nebraska. She preceded him in death May 15, 2001. He was then united in marriage to Nova Workman on May 1, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church at Lexington. Dick was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder and Trustee. He was always active in the church choir singing Tenor. Always an advocate for Lexington, Dick served on many boards and committees as well as organizations. He was a member of Lexington Rotary, Lion’s Club, Lexington Jaycees, the Bent & Spent Club (B&S Club), Lexington Diplomats, Lexington Chamber of Commerce, the V.F.W. and American Legion. He was always active in the National Democratic Party (his mother served as national committee chairwoman). He was active in the American Pharmacy Association, the Nebraska Pharmacy Association and the National Community Pharmacists Association. Dick and Nova were both involved in a local jail ministry as well as serving as royalty for the previous Plum Creek Days in Lexington. Friends described Dick as compassionate, caring, charming, a delightful personality with a great sense of humor and very sympathetic to the less fortunate. Lexington has truly lost a treasure. Survivors include: His wife: Nova Barmore of Lexington, Nebraska Two sons: Rick (Mary) Barmore of Lexington, Nebraska David (Deb) Barmore of Omaha, Nebraska One daughter: Kerry (Thomas) Madigan of Lakewood, Colorado Stepchildren: Alice (Leo) Hinkle of Beaver City, Nebraska Sondra (Layne) Becker of Lexington, Nebraska Four Grandchildren: David Barmore, Denise, Deanna & Danielle Barmore; Six Step-grandchildren: Fletcher & Jillian Becker, Brian & Scott Hinkle, Jennifer & Richie Workman Brother-in-law: Russell Greathouse of Lexington, Nebraska Local Cousin: Brad (Robin) Staton of Cozad, Nebraska Nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Dick was preceded in death, besides his first wife, by his parents; infant brother; grandson, Steven and stepson, Chuck. Dick’s body was cremated. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lexington with Reverend Caroline Vickery, officiating. Register Book Signing will be held Friday, September 7, 2007, from 5-7 p.m. at Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington.
